Terms of service

Last updated 18 August 2026

These terms cover the sotto desktop application and the sotto account service. By downloading the app or creating an account you agree to them.

Who you are contracting with

The service is provided by LEGAL-TBD: registered entity name, registered at LEGAL-TBD: registered address. Written notice can be sent to LEGAL-TBD: contact address, and questions can go to the address on our contact page.

What the service is

Sotto is a Windows desktop application that listens to an interview you are taking part in, transcribes it, and generates suggested answers using a large language model. It runs on your machine and displays its output in an overlay window intended to stay out of screen-sharing captures.

Once you sign in, the account service stores what the app syncs — your interview profiles and the files attached to them, a record of every interview session, the turn-by-turn transcript of a session whose profile has recording on, and your usage and spend records — and relays model traffic on your behalf. There is no separate sync setting to turn on or off — signing in is the whole of it — and the only per-item choice is per-profile conversation recording, which governs whether the transcript is kept.

The suggestions the app produces are generated text. They can be wrong, out of date, or unsuitable for the question asked. You are responsible for what you say in an interview.

Your account

You need an account to use the managed model access and to sync data between devices. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for everything done through your account. One account is for one person; do not share it.

You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and you must not use the service if you are barred from doing so by applicable law.

Acceptable use

Use sotto within the rules of the process you are in. Some employers, universities and certification bodies prohibit AI assistance during an interview or an exam. Whether to use the app in a given situation is your call, and the consequences of that call are yours.

You must not:

  • use the service to break a law, or to impersonate someone else;
  • use it where you are under an obligation — contractual, academic or professional — not to use assistance of this kind, if you are unwilling to accept the consequences of doing so;
  • resell, sublicense or redistribute the service or the managed model access, or share your account with others;
  • attempt to circumvent usage allowances, rate limits or access controls, or automate the service beyond normal personal use;
  • submit content you have no right to submit, including confidential material belonging to someone else.

Plans, billing and renewal

A paid subscription is sold through Paddle.com Market Ltd, which acts as the merchant of record. Paddle is the seller for your purchase: it takes the payment, handles tax, and issues the receipt. Its own terms and privacy notice apply to the payment itself, and card details never reach our servers.

Subscriptions renew automatically for the interval you chose — monthly or annual — until cancelled. The price you pay is the price shown at checkout in your own currency; local taxes are added by Paddle where they apply. If we change the price of a plan, the change applies from your next renewal, not mid-term.

Cancellation and refunds are covered by the refund and cancellation policy, which forms part of these terms.

Usage allowances

Managed model access is provided against an allowance of credits that depends on your plan. Your plan's credits are granted each month and are what a managed answer is checked against; when they run out, managed answers stop. There is no overage charge — you are never billed more than your plan for reaching an allowance.

A one-off pack of credits can be added from your account while a plan is active. Purchased credits are additional to what your plan grants, stay valid for a stated period, and are never bought automatically on your behalf.

We may also stop managed access temporarily to protect the service, for example if total spend across all users is abnormal or a provider we depend on is failing.

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you supply — your CV, your notes, your interview sessions and their transcripts. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to store what the app syncs from the devices you are signed in on, and to send prompt and transcript content to the model and transcription providers that produce the answers. What is processed, stored and shared is set out in the privacy policy.

You can export your account data or delete your account, from your account page, at any time. Deleting your account removes your profiles and the files attached to them, your sessions and their transcripts, your usage and spend records, your subscription records, and your credit grants and reservations. Some things outlive it: where an operator has acted on your account or on your email address, the audit record of that administrative action stays; server logs can still mention your email address until they age out on their own; and Paddle keeps the record of any purchase as merchant of record for it. What the export contains is set out in the privacy policy.

Availability

The service is provided as it is, without a guaranteed level of availability. We change, suspend and retire features as the product develops. Where a change removes something you are paying for, the refund policy applies.

Disclaimers and liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the service is provided without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the app is undetectable by any particular software, that its output is accurate, or that using it will produce any particular outcome for you.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for lost opportunities, lost earnings, or the outcome of any interview, assessment or application. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending the agreement

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or end your access if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service — in which case we will refund the unused part of a paid period.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. The date above is when they last changed. Where a change materially affects your rights, we will tell subscribers before it takes effect for them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of LEGAL-TBD: governing law jurisdiction, and the courts of LEGAL-TBD: courts jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting any consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
